FOUR HOUR WORKSHOP!

Charles Oldham Moldmaking Workshop

Moldmaking Workshop #1 - Introduction to Plaster Moldmaking

Students learn:

~ How to set up the mold walls, prepare the model, and mix and pour the plaster.

~ How to make a plaster mold that allows you to reproduce multiple copies of a 3-D design.

~ How to recognize and fix undercuts, and properly release your design from the mold.

~ How to make proper plaster fittings for multi-piece molds (for complex designs requiring multiple molds).

Sculptor Charles "Chuck" Oldham (voted one of 8 "Titans of Bronze" by Arizona Art Life Magazine, 12 years head wildlife sculptor and sculptor of Presidential and Head-of-State gifts for Cybis), was trained by master moldmakers with a lifetime of knowledge and practice in the production of ceramics and fine porcelain. Today, this know-how is all but lost in America, but continues in an unbroken tradition in China and other places where ceramic arts have always been highly esteemed.
